VILLA CARRÉE

Villa Carrée [kare] is our proposal for narrow plots with a ridge height not exceeding 9.5 meters. Inspired by popular cube-style houses, we decided to create something classic and very elegant. Hence, the marriage of black and white, large windows, and minimalist glass railings.

Villa Carrée, despite its compact size, retains all the necessary functions and is ideal as a home for a family of 2+2 or 2+3. The base of the structure measures 12.2 x 11.5 meters, making it close to a square in shape. As a result, it is optimized in many aspects.

The building does not have a typical vestibule. You enter directly into the hallway, which features two built-in closets and a convenient staircase. The entire area is open to two stories, allowing for an impressive staircase design. The project includes a practical living space, consisting of a living room and dining area with a combined area of 50 square meters, and a functional kitchen with a well-thought-out island. In the kitchen, we have designed a hidden passage to the pantry, connected to the garage, making it much easier to unload groceries. Additionally, there is a home office that can also serve as an extra guest room.

Furthermore, on the ground floor, there is a bathroom, a convenient laundry room, and a walk-in closet for seasonal clothing, which serves as a passage between the living area and the garage. The two-car garage, with internal dimensions of 6.6 x 6.35 meters, provides ample parking space. The heating room with an air heat pump system is located at the back of the garage. It has additional external doors that allow access to the terrace from the garden side.

The first floor offers 100 square meters of space, featuring three children’s bedrooms. Each of them is equipped with a 120 cm wide bed, a built-in wardrobe, and a study area. The children share a common bathroom with both a shower and a bathtub. The Master Bedroom, spanning 17 square meters, overlooks the garden and includes a 160 cm wide bed, a vanity, and a private bathroom with a shower, bathtub, double sinks, and a toilet. The design also includes a space for a mini-library with a comfortable reading chair. The mini-library is located on a mezzanine level and has access to a small front balcony.

The terrace above the garage has a high parapet and connects to two of the children’s bedrooms. If needed, a portion of the terrace can also serve as a technical space for photovoltaic panels. We suggest creating a 1.5-meter strip with a platform and decorative grass in front of the windows to enhance the aesthetics.

FINISHING MATERIALS

Villa Carrée has been designed using traditional masonry technology. The double-layered wall consists of 25 cm ceramic blocks (Porotherm) and 20 cm thick high-quality styrofoam insulation. This allows for the inclusion of external roller shutters or built-in blinds. It features a concealed installation that does not affect the aesthetics of the building. The exterior is finished with high-quality mineral plaster. The design includes the main entrance, garage, and vertical niches between the windows in black, while the entire structure remains unblemished in white.

In the project, we have proposed windows with a classic Viennese muntin pattern in a warm graphite color. Additionally, on the south and west-facing windows, there are additional contrasting black window screens that beautifully complement the facade and add a touch of Mediterranean atmosphere to the building. Large windows on the upper floor are protected by glass balustrades.

A decorative wooden portal with fluting and decorative details in the corners surrounds the entrance doors. The double doors feature subtly marked panels, and glazing can also be successfully applied here. The hipped roof with double slopes of 30 and 40 degrees allowed us to achieve a height of 9.5 meters at the ridge. We propose a standing seam black metal roof covering. To maintain the proportions of the structure, we have introduced a subtle attic that conceals the roof and allows for better proportions of the building.

The concept of this catalog project was to seamlessly fit into a narrow plot, so the immediate surroundings are extremely elegant and frugal in design. White hydrangeas and flowering shrubs are featured in the landscape. Additionally, we have chosen to suggest simple black cubic planters. The plot is enclosed by a tall hedge, with high planting interspersed every few meters
