VILLA ROUGE

The inspiration for Villa Rouge was Mediterranean architecture, which dominates in Italy, France, and Spain. We decided to depart from the typical red roof often found in local designs and opted for a monk-monk type roof tile, coupled with an undisturbed façade in shades of cream and beautiful pistachio window shutters to add charm to the structure.

Villa Rouge is based on the villa Saphir’s cubature and is the perfect solution for families of 2+2 or 2+3. Its living area is just under 230 m², plus an approximately 50-square-meter garage. The covered space above the garage is not included in the surface area calculation; it serves more as a storage room for keepsakes. We designed an attic access hatch accessible from the garage.

On the ground floor, there is an ergonomic and well-arranged kitchen with an island. Its tall cupboards easily function as a pantry for storing supplies. The kitchen can be either closed or open to the dining area, whose windows open directly onto the outdoor terrace. The living room and dining room are connected, creating a space of almost 50 m². Thanks to the 265 cm tall windows, the entire ground floor is spacious, providing a sense of proximity to the surroundings and easy access to the terrace. Depending on your needs, it is possible to designate a study or library on the ground floor.

The ground floor also includes a spacious utility room with a laundry, an additional utility room, and a coatroom for outerwear, which serves as a passage between the living area and the garage. The two-car garage, with internal dimensions of 7.7 × 6.3 m, allows not only for convenient parking but also for the storage of sports equipment and tools. In the case of an alternative heating source, the garage can be extended and the boiler room can be located in that part of the building. With an air-source heat pump or ground-source heat exchanger, there is no need for a flue and chimney, and the utility room can be relocated.

The first floor offers 110 m² of space, where we designed two children’s bedrooms with walk-in closets, an additional guest room with a front balcony, and a bathroom with a bathtub, shower, double sinks, and a toilet. Furthermore, there is a 17.5 m² Master Bedroom with an adjoining walk-in closet and a fully equipped bathroom. The main bedroom overlooks the garden and has balcony access.

In this project, we expanded the roof over the terrace. This allows for the creation of a sheltered space for shared events, protected from the sun and rain, and the main bedroom’s balcony becomes larger.

FINISHING MATERIALS

Villa Rouge was designed using traditional brick construction methods. The double-layer wall consists of 25 cm ceramic bricks (Porotherm) with 20 cm of high-quality styrofoam insulation. This design allows for the incorporation of external blinds or recessed blinds. The installation method is concealed and does not impact the building’s aesthetics.

The designed windows feature a classic Vienna muntin bar, applied on both sides, along with a dummy muntin (interpane). For such windows, the thermal frame is crucial, as it provides better insulation, lowering the Uw value. The windows and the garage door are proposed in a warm gray color. A beautiful addition to the entire villa is the pistachio-colored window shutters, which serve both as a decorative element and sun protection. We recommend having wooden entrance doors, with glazing and a lower kickplate (a solid wooden element), realized in the same pistachio color as the window shutters. This will give the building’s façade and interior a distinctive Mediterranean atmosphere. It’s these details that helped us achieve the desired Mediterranean ambiance.

The main focus in this project was the hipped roof finished with ceramic monk and nun tiles in a classic red color. We chose a roof pitch of 25 degrees to gently flatten it. In addition, extended eaves with decorative rafters on the soffit were introduced. Adding a roof over the garage area aimed to create more diversity in the plane. The resulting space is accessible through attic stairs located in the garage.

When designing the immediate surroundings, we opted for the currently popular grass-cut pavers. For pragmatists, we have some reassuring news – the effect of perfectly trimmed grass can be achieved using its artificial version! We also emphasize low-maintenance shrubs and pampas grass, which work wonderfully in all conditions.

We recommend the Villa Rouge project to those who adore Mediterranean villas and would like to achieve a similar aesthetic in Poland. Additionally, if your Local Spatial Development Plan or Building Conditions Decision mentions a red roof covering, this will be the perfect choice. We guarantee that the effect will leave you breathless!
