VILLA GRIS
Villa Gris was created based on the Vitrée project, to which we added a very convenient two-car garage. We also made slight modifications to the building’s facade, opting for straight ceramic roof tiles, light plaster, softer contrasts, and classic muntins in the windows. The overall result is beautifully harmonious and decidedly less industrial than the original.
In this project, we opted to forgo a separate vestibule, placing a spacious entry immediately with room for guest outerwear and a comfortable seating area. Directly from this area, there is access to a substantial office (19 m²) and a cloakroom serving as a passage to the garage. The cloakroom also provides entry to a transitional pantry, strategically located to facilitate daily unpacking of groceries. The living area comprises a living room, dining room, and kitchen, totaling almost 70 m². In the living room, a wood-burning fireplace and a recess for AV equipment were planned. The kitchen with an island is separated from the other rooms by sliding doors in the French style. This is a self-supporting structure, so its omission poses no problem in case of a change in the interior design concept.
The most distinctive element of this project is the monumental corner glazing in the living room, reaching a height of 5.7 m. It was designed as a fixed façade system, meaning it cannot be opened. This approach not only adds a touch of modernity to the entire structure but also allows for a unique interior design and emphasizes the height of the living room with a large chandelier.
On the upper floor, three bedrooms and two fully equipped bathrooms have been designed. The main bedroom, overlooking the garden area, is very spacious, covering nearly 25 m², with an extremely functional layout. It includes a private dressing room and a bathroom-sized 13 m². Additionally, there are two children’s bedrooms with a bathroom, as well as space for a utility laundry room.
The attic space is over 30 m² in a very advantageous, rectangular layout. Natural daylight is ensured through the use of a dormer in the roof, with a full-sized HS-type window. Through the tall windows, there is access to a mini-terrace with picturesque views of the lake and nearby mountain peaks.
The technical section of the building is planned at the “back” of the garage, which has been deepened to create space for a boiler room (heat pump) and an additional storage room with independent access to the garden. Additional HVAC units will be located on the technical terrace above the garage.
FINISHING MATERIALS
Villa Gris was designed using traditional brick construction, with a double-layered wall consisting of ceramic bricks with a thickness of 25 cm and Styrofoam insulation with a thickness of 20 cm. The building is set on a foundation slab, which was necessary due to a high water table. The exterior plaster is a mix of subtle grays. In contrast to Villa Vitrée, we opted for smaller contrasts.
The light gray aluminum windows feature Vienna muntins with a large field to maintain a more classic look for the building. The glazed corner is a façade system, which is an optimal solution both in terms of costs and insulation parameters. The beautiful double-door entrance is accentuated with color. We love this distinctive feature in the form of blue wooden doors with fairly rich ornamentation. The roofing material used is a simple ceramic roof tile in a lighter gray shade. Downspouts are concealed here due to the additional part of the garage integrated into the structure and the glazed corner, which precludes traditional solutions.
We recommend using large-format concrete slabs for the driveway and approach to the building. On the entrance stairs and ground-level terraces, we proposed ceramic tiles with certifications for external use.
