MAISON TERRE

The modern form of Maison Terre significantly deviates from our previous portfolio. We took on its design as part of renewing our collaboration with our client. Mutual trust allowed us to step outside the usual patterns and demonstrate that effective communication enables us to create stunning, albeit unconventional, projects.

Maison Terre is an individual project designed for a private investor. It captivates with its perfect integration into the terrain and the adjustment of the functional layout to the cardinal directions. It will be located on a spectacular forest plot where nature seamlessly permeates the interiors, and large windows allow contemplation at any time of the day.

The minimalist architecture is enriched with warm finishing materials, such as boards in a deep, walnut-toned brown and natural stone. Due to the terrain’s specificity, proximity to the forest, and the unique microclimate, we opted for composite instead of real wood, which would be particularly troublesome to maintain.

After analyzing initial inspirations and discussing the functional program, we knew that we were definitely focusing on large windows, wooden elements, and a classic eave, gently projecting beyond the face of the walls. Additionally, despite the considerable size of the plot, there were limitations imposed by the decision of the local spatial development plan and the buildable area. The initial sketches revealed the intended direction, and after quick consultations with the investors, we knew we were on the right track.

The entrance to the building is through a foyer open to two floors. Right next to it is a cloakroom for outerwear and a utility room, with a separate side entrance and a special area for pet care. The daytime zone covers almost 90 m², where we arranged a living room with space for a home cinema and a bio-fireplace, a dining area for 8-12 people, and an open kitchen. In the kitchen, we placed a very large island with a bar, where residents can prepare meals and have a quick breakfast. Next to the kitchen, there is also space for a handy pantry with a dirty kitchen function, covering an area of 5 m². The last room on the ground floor is a 30-square-meter gym with a large window and direct access to the terrace.

A comfortable staircase with a landing and large glazing, providing access to natural light, leads to the first floor. On this floor, we have a designated relaxation area with comfortable sofas and a mezzanine overlooking the entrance hall. The program for the first floor was straightforward: the Master zone, two guest bedrooms, a bathroom, and a convenient laundry room. The main bedroom, nearly 60 m² in size, is located above the living room. The focal point setting the tone here is an almost entirely glazed wall facing the bed [6.7 sq.m.]. This section includes a private bathroom of 20 m² and a comfortable wardrobe.

FINISHING MATERIALS

Maison Terre has been designed using traditional brick construction, with a double-layered wall consisting of ceramic bricks with a thickness of 25 cm and styrofoam insulation with a thickness of 20 cm. The entire building is set on a foundation slab, providing optimal ground insulation.

The facade combines light mineral plaster with cladding in the color of deep walnut. The chosen material superbly imitates natural wood; however, it is a composite that doesn’t require the same level of maintenance and upkeep over the years as real wood. We opted for large-format, minimalist glazing that not only provides ample natural light but also gives the entire structure an incredible lightness. Despite its compact nature, these windows allowed us to achieve a sculpted effect. Their color is matched to the dark roof sheeting. Natural stone, visually warming the entire building, has been used on the entrance stairs and all terraces.

Adjacent to the building, we planned small architecture in the form of a gazebo with a summer kitchen and a three-space detached garage. The gazebo harmoniously blends with the pool terrace area and the fireplace zone. The external composition also includes minimalist fountains and awnings, providing comfortable relaxation on both sunny and cooler days. A hidden awning is located above the gym area, ensuring pleasant shade during hot summer days.
