TWIN HOUSE
In the case of this investment, we were asked to design a classical facade for a simple cube-shaped building that would be implemented in a semi-detached structure. The investors already had a project with a construction permit, so everyone was keen on minimal interference, especially in terms of volume. From the very beginning, we had good feelings about this collaboration and the enormous potential that lay in the project. We can confidently say that this is our record – from sending the initial proposals to minor adjustments, it took just over 30 minutes, and full project approval occurred in less than 24 hours. Formulating such a perfect response to the clients’ vision is incredibly satisfying for us and inspires further work.
The submitted 2D elevation views had good proportions but lacked freshness and sophistication. The changes we made were not massive, but they completely transformed the project. We organized the windows and slightly modified the sizes of openings, opting for large glazing with a 0 cm windowsill and the right rhythm.
In some areas, such as the balcony above the entrance, we slightly “trimmed down” the original concept, choosing lighter wrought iron railings with a minimalist pattern. The elegant entrance doors, with a side sconce, were significantly emphasized. In the front mini-bay window, a decoration in the form of a slightly protruding intermediate cornice appeared, giving the building a classic look with a modern twist.
In the central part of the building, we extended the attic above its wings, creating an optical focal point that gives the illusion of dealing with a standalone structure, rather than a semi-detached building. This “crown” effectively breaks up the substantial front elevation, adding a sense of lightness.
On the garden side, we retained the original window layout with divisions into 2 and 3 wings. To better harmonize the entire design with classical architectural principles, two columns appeared at the balcony, serving as decorative and complementary elements. Both on the balcony and at the windows with a 0 cm windowsill, wrought iron railings with the same pattern as on the front were added.
As our clients aimed for a result of timeless elegance, the design features simple decorative elements – window bands, a detail of an intermediate cornice encircling the entire building perimeter, simplified column capitals, and a modernistic attic with a clearly marked cornice. The large windows are devoid of muntin’s and are maintained in a slightly contrasting shade of gray against the white.
Are you interested in a similar building transformation? Do you want to give your facade a ‘facelift’ and give it a more classic look? Or maybe you’re planning to expand your home with additional square meters?
Please send us the following information: the location of the project, photos of the building from each side, any existing project documentation, a written description and/or inspirations regarding the direction of the changes. Once we receive the above materials, we will prepare a cooperation offer.
